who is over 70, can still skip with her
arms behind her back and under her legs.
And my sister, who was a competitive
skipper, still skips.”
She says skipping helps people grow
emotionally and socially and is easy
to do. It also makes us aware of what
our bodies are doing when we go from
standing still to jumping.
“It’s not only about jumping on two
feet, but being able to switch from one
foot to another.”
Knowing how to jump rope opens
up activities and sports that require
jumping, including dance, basketball,
soccer and volleyball.
“It’s a physical activity that can beenjoyed alone or with friends. You canuse one rope or two, and try anythingthat your brain can come up with.” Evenduring competitive training, kids playgames, work together and have a lot oflaughs.
Deanna says skipping relieves stress,and being part of a team makes her feelhappy and supported. She’s been in thesport since she was 10.
“It helps kids build confidence andmake new friendships,” Deanna says.
She adds she’s developed strongmuscles and endurance from skipping,which help her compete in triathlons. |a
