Albertans share their voices and you can, too.
“I feel like a new person. My granddaughter has
never seen me ride a bike. That’s my next goal –
to ride bikes together.” – Evelyn Lockhart of Lacombe,
on her double knee replacement
“The care my son received gave him a future.
The NICU staff inspired utmost confidence
and showed my family the highest level of
compassion.” – Pat Laporte of Calgary,

Your priorities for your health and your health
care system are our priorities.
You aren’t satisfied with cookie-cutter solutions to health care,
and neither are we. You want — and deserve — personalized
care that is unique to your needs and the needs of your families
AHS is listening to what Albertans need and want in their
health care system and taking real action. We’re working to find
innovative solutions to help you be healthy and live well. And
whatever the service or setting, decisions are being made locally,
by locals, for locals, regardless of where you live in the province.
We are national leaders on many fronts when it comes to
clinical care. And we’ve listened when you told us you wanted
more than just top-notch hospital care. AHS has services and
supports in schools, community centres, online, on wheels and
even in your home to help you be healthier.
Alberta’s seniors have told us they want to live in their homes
longer, so we’ve invested in home care services and community
care. And when it’s no longer safe or healthy for them to be at
home, seniors want to live somewhere that feels like home, has
the tastes of home and is where they are treated like family.
We’re making more living options available for every stage of
their care journey.
AHS is big but its foundations are rooted in small and large
communities in every corner of this province. Albertans from
across the health care spectrum — clinicians, researchers,
individuals, patients and community groups — have stepped
up to make our health care the envy of many provinces by
participating in our Strategic Clinical Networks. These networks
ensure patient-focused, quality care through thoughtful
innovation. The best ideas and care practises working in one
community can be put to work in another, adapted to fit local
needs and local people.
We can and will adapt to the health needs and priorities of our
communities. We need to hear your voice, your ideas and your
questions. Help us put your priorities into action.
We know you have high expectations
of your health care system. We are working
to make sure your health care system is as
efficient and effective as possible by:
• Making sure every dollar counts.
• Enabling local leaders to make local decisions in
• Eliminating bureaucracy and improving efficiency.
• Focusing on the things that mean most to you.
We understand and respect that the financial resources to
operate the health care system are not limitless and that’s why
we are making sure every dollar counts. It’s your money and
your health and we are putting you first.
This means less red tape and an easier path for you to get the
care you need. Every day we work to make wait lists shorter,
access easier, caregivers more accessible, and ways to do
things faster and more efficiently.
Every day we make decisions based on your priorities, making
sure you have the care you need, where you need it. That is why
AHS has local decision-makers in your communities. Making
decisions at a local level means decisions are made by people
who live in your communities, delivering your care, and who are
accountable to you.
We need to ensure that your health care system is flexible,
so that when priorities change, your health care system can
change with them. We are listening to you and working to
create the health system that you need.
