Welcome to the first
issue of the new Apple magazine, a joint publication byAlberta Health Services andRedPoint Media Group.
Apple is, and will be, fullof the kinds of informationpeople often ask AlbertaHealth Services. For manyAlbertans, health and wellness are top of mind: theywant to know how they andtheir families can live healthy, long lives. Our new magazineis one of the many ways we’reanswering those questions.
In this issue, you’ll finda diverse lineup of storiesincluding information aboutthis year’s influenza immunization program, an effort I’vebeen involved in for severalmonths with dedicated AHSteam members who have beenworking tirelessly to plan andcarry out this program.
Speaking as both a doctorand as a mother, I encourage every Albertan sixmonths of age and over tohave a flu shot. It’s free, andit works. Since children sixto 23 months old, seniors 65
years and older, long-termcare residents, pregnant andbreastfeeding women, andanyone with a chronic medical condition are at higherrisk for severe influenza orcomplications, I strongly urgethem to make immunizationa priority early in the influenza season.
Immunization, like mostof the recommendationsthroughout this magazine, isan easy and proven way tolook after your own, and yourfamily’s health, during fluseason and throughout life. Ifyou want to be healthy and bewell, a flu shot this year is agood first step.
