Diabetes Surveillance System. About
one in 20 people, most over the
age of 40, are living with the disease.
Type 2 diabetes can be well
managed and is preventable. Two
of the best ways are with physical
activity and healthy eating.
This has certainly been Barbara
Hart’s experience. “I’m controlling
my diabetes with exercise and diet,”
says the 53-year-old, whose entire
family developed type 2 diabetes in
their 40s. Hart was diagnosed with
the disease and put on medication
just after her 50th birthday.
